Persona 5: The Phantom X will launch worldwide on mobile and PC on June 26, 2025.
Atlus confirmed the release date in a new trailer for the RPG, which was developed in partnership with China-based Black Wings Game Studio. Notably, this will mark its Western debut, following an open beta that kicked off in Asian markets last year.
Set in the same modern-day Tokyo as Persona 5, The Phantom X follows a new cast of teenagers who become the vigilante Phantom Thieves. Like Persona 5, The Phantom X features a schedule-based social simulation experience in which players will attend school and take part in other activities by day and explore dungeons and take part in turn-based battles to fight corrupt adults at night.
What’s different from Persona 5, though, is that you’ll also be able to take part in a PvE mode called The Velvet Trials and interact with other players using a new Guild mechanic. The original Persona 5 had a minor multiplayer feature wherein you could see how others spent their days and even indirectly aid them through the in-game Metaverse, but The Phantom X offers more direct player-to-player engagement.
The Phantom X will be free-to-play with microtransactions. Activities will use an energy system that can be replenished either by waiting or spending real money to replenish it. A gacha system will also be featured to summon special units based on the “Confidants” you can befriend, which includes Persona 5‘s original Joker-led Phantom Thieves led by Joker.
This is the first brand-new Persona game since 2023’s Tactica, a Persona 5 tactical RPG spin-off. Last year also saw the release of Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the original Persona 3, and Metaphor: ReFantazio, a spiritual successor to Persona from several of the series’ key developers.
