Sony expected to take a hit to PS5 sales due to tariffs

Company considering making PS5 in the U.S. to avoid tariffs

In its latest quarterly report, Sony revealed that it has sold 77.8 million PlayStation 5s since they went on sale in 2020 after shipping 2.8 million units in the last quarter.

This is similar to PS4 sales, which hit 79.1 million units in about the same time. However, Sony’s PS5 sales were down more than two million units year over year.

Even though there was a decline in sales for PlayStation units, games made up for that, rising nine per cent and helping push the operating income up 43 per cent over the year.

Sony expects a huge hit to sales next year due to tariffs since many of its sales happen in the U.S. Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki mentioned that the company is considering building the PS5 in the U.S. to avoid the tariff issue.
