Xbox has begun testing its Copilot for Gaming on Android and iOS in many countries, including Canada.
As the name suggests, this is a version of Microsoft’s generative AI chatbot intended for Xbox gaming. In this Copilot for Gaming beta, testers will be able to ask about any games, including what they’re playing, as well as ask for help if they get stuck. Copilot will also be able to respond with inquiries about Xbox activity, like play history and achievements, and even provide game recommendations.
Some possible queries include:
- “Hey Copilot, can you remind me what materials I need to craft a sword in Minecraft?”
- [While playing South of Midnight] “I’m stuck on Rougarou right now. Can you give me some tips on how to beat this boss?”
- “I love horror movies. Any suggestions for what game I should play?”
- “When does my Game Pass subscription renew?”
Microsoft says Copilot will source your Xbox account as well as its Bing search engine for responses.
The company stresses that this is an “early version” of Copilot for Gaming, and it wants player feedback to expand upon the tool with new features in the future.
To take part in the beta, you’ll need the beta version of the Xbox app from the Google Play Store (an iOS version isn’t available to download). Xbox says those with an iOS device who don’t already have the beta version downloaded can either try out the Copilot for Gaming beta via the Game Bar on Windows PC or wait until it’s available “more widely” in the Xbox app for mobile in the future.
