Google Pixel phones are currently able to run the Android 16 beta and a new feature has been uncovered by Android Authority that suggests Google is working on theme packs, which could be similar to how things work with Samsung’s One UI.
These Pixel themes could, in theory, change your phone’s icons, wallpaper, operating system colour and more. It could even extend as far as changing system sounds, fonts or app designs.
When this new version of the Andrid 16 beta dropped, we mainly saw the new design influenced by Material 3 Expressive. However, we didn’t notice that there were more updates within the Pixel ‘Wallpaper & Style’ app. One allowed you to resize the lockscreen clock, and another is called the ‘Magic Portrait’ wallpaper tool. It puts a colourful border around whatever you have set as your wallpaper.

In the freshly uncovered version of the ‘Wallpaper & Styles,’ the theme button appears at the top of the page, and has a subtitle that says ‘Discover Pixel themes.’ This suggests that there will be pre-set themes for people to choose from.
Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority says that when you tap on the button in the version he found, it tried to open an app called ‘Pixel Customization Packs,’ but since it doesn’t exist yet, it didn’t actually open the app.
I’d expect this feature will work like themes within Samsung’s One UI operating system. Google and Samsung have been working closer and closer together over the past few years, so it makes sense that they’ll have more feature parity.
