It’s official, Nvidia’s native GeForce Now app is finally available on the Steam Deck.
Previously available through a released script by Nvidia, the official release onto the Steam Deck was teased at CES 2025. Now, the Steam Deck gets the entire 2,200 game library with 4K resolution and 60FPS.
Although games are available directly on the Steam Deck, there are some benefits to using services like GeForce Now. It provides HDR10, DLSS4, and Reflex on supported titles, and allows graphics to be pushed much higher than usual. Considering the games are streamed to the device instead of running through the Steam Deck hardware, the device acts more as a display for the games.
With this in mind, Nvidia has promised a significant increase in battery life when using GeForce Now in comparison to running the games natively. According to Engadget, Nvidia said it could squeeze 50 per cent more usage out of the Steam Deck before requiring a charge. This is a huge boost to the Steam Deck, considering the major point of fault with the handheld gaming PC is the short battery life.
It also allows access to a whole host of games that weren’t previously available on the system. Outside of Steam itself, GeForce Now pulls its library from the Epic Games Store, Game Pass for PC, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Blizzard’s Battle.net, and more.
Nvidia also notes that users can now enjoy AAA titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Monster Hunter Wilds and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 at maximum settings without any hardware limitations or battery drain.
Nvidia notes that the device can be docked to a TV for what it calls a “big screen experience.”
