Threads is finally getting direct messages (DMs). Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the news in a Threads post. Threads DMs will be separate from Instagram DMs.
There’s a catch, however. At this time, the company is only starting to test the feature in Hong Kong, Thailand and Argentina, with plans to expand to other countries “soon.” Therefore, it’s unclear if and when it might make its way to Canada.
Threads has been around for just under two years, so it’s odd that it’s taken this long to begin to add DM functionality. Fellow popular X (Twitter) rival Bluesky introduced direct messaging last year.
Currently, Threads users still need to use sister app Instagram to send private messages to others. For most, that will continue to be the main solution until DMs officially come to Threads in more countries.
