Snap’s fifth generation of Spectacles with see-through glasses are available for developers in Canada starting today. Snap introduced Snap OS in September 2024 and now developers in the country can build apps on the operating system. Canadian devs can now join the Spectacles Developer Program.
The program requires a 12-month commitment and costs $139 per month, which will provide access to the Spectacles and the Snap developer team. Snap is also introducing educational pricing for students with a subscription fee of $69.50.
Further, Snap announced it will launch an immersive pair of glasses called Specs in 2026. Specs sport an ultra-powerful wearable computer integrated into a light pair of see-through glasses. Specs will offer an AI assistant and bring it into a three-dimensional space, enable shared games and experiences with friends, and provide a flexible and powerful workstation for browsing, streaming and more.
Snap OS will also see integrations with OpenAI and Gemini on Google Cloud. Now developers are letting developers use AI to offer text translation, currency conversion, suggest recipes, and more. There’s also a Depth Module API, Automated Speech Recognition API and Snap3D API.
