Sony has launched a free PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 app called Climate Station to help teach people about climate change through interactivity.
Developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment in collaboration with the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance, Climate Station incorporates a variety of scientific data to illustrate how climate change is affecting the planet. The app shows the history of climate change’s impact over the past century, the causes of these changes and what the Earth could look like if these issues were tackled now vs. if they’re left unchecked.
On PS5, you’ll be able to fully interact with the globe using your DualSense controller, while PS VR2 owners can actually reach out with their Sense controllers in hand to manipulate Earth.
Altogether, Climate Station features four modes:
- Weather Year — a timelapse of clouds and storms as the seasons progress, showing the impact of greenhouse gases, shifting sea ice and other elemental changes
- Observations — a look back at a century of climate change, showing how the Earth has heated and cooled over time in response to different events
- Projections — explore five possible pathways shaped by global emissions decisions and the impact of extreme weather, droughts, floods, biodiversity loss and more
- Explainer Library — 90 minutes of video content that breaks down the science behind climate change in an accessible manner
Check out the Climate Station app on the PlayStation Store.
