The third season of The Last of Us is looking at a release sometime in 2027.
According to an interview conducted by Variety with HBO CEO and content chairman Casey Bloys, the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us is looking at a minimum of two years before its next season.
“The series is definitely planned for 2027,” Bloys said to Variety.
This news was announced shortly after The Last of Us video game co-creator and series co-showrunner, Neil Druckmann, announced he would be stepping away from work on the adaptation, leaving collaborator Craig Mazin in charge.
Bloys added that details were still being worked out on whether to make two more seasons or one long season. Mazin has previously confirmed that a fourth season is planned to fully adapt The Last of Us Part II game.
Variety also inquired about the status of another HBO show, The Penguin. Bloys could not confirm a new season immediately but said the idea was “definitely possible.”
The first two seasons of The Last of Us are now streaming on Crave.
