Google can now let people in the U.S. call local businesses using AI. The feature is within Search, allowing users to call to ask for pricing or availability without speaking on the phone. Unfortunately, we in Canada will still need to make phone calls for a while.
When a user searches for a service like a barbershop, Google will display a new option called “have AI check pricing,” which will appear beneath the business listing. Then Google will ask for information about the request, such as the type of services needed. The AI will follow up by asking how the user wants to receive updates, such as an email or text.
Businesses can opt out of this option in their Google profile settings. Interestingly, those with AI Pro and AI Ultra will have “higher limits,” meaning there might be limitations for those without either subscription tier.
This might be a handy feature, so you won’t need to call businesses with quick questions; however, without it coming to Canada, we can’t test it now.
