Ad blocking in real life is a dream coming true for some. Software engineer Stijn Spanhove is creating an ad blocker for Snap Spectacles. He says it’s still in the early and experimental stages, but he showed an example online, and it looks pretty awesome.
It uses Google’s Gemini to detect and block ads in the environment, giving users the opportunity to control the content they see in the physical world.
🚫🕶️ I’ve been building an XR app for a real-world ad blocker using Snap @Spectacles. It uses Gemini to detect and block ads in the environment.

Some also suggested replacing the blocked ads with things like cats or puppies, which would be pretty awesome.
I demoed the fifth-generation Snap Spectacles in October and liked the experience. The augmented reality (AR) overlay displays on your hand, and the AR features are easy to use. This generation of Spectacles wasn’t the most fashionable, so I couldn’t imagine wearing them all the time, but if the sixth generation has a cool look and real-life ad-blocking, it might be a device everyone needs to purchase.
