Ookla released its Canadian Speedtest report for the first half of 2025, detailing which providers offered the fastest mobile and fixed network performance so far this year.
In the report, Ookla crowned Bell as the fastest mobile provider and fastest fixed network in Canada. Bell’s mobile network was named best for 5G gaming, and the company swept the competition in the fixed network department, taking the award in all but two of the six categories.
Alongside Bell, the report also brings up Rogers and Telus, recognizing Rogers as having the highest 5G availability out of any Canadian provider, with 85.5 per cent of its users accessing its 5G network. Telus was praised for having the highest mobile consumer sentiment out of the three providers, scoring a 3.06 out of five.
The data for the year’s first half could not determine a conclusive winner for the most consistent mobile networks, the best mobile networks, and the video experience categories. There was no statistical difference between the three providers in these categories. The fixed networks had similar results, where they could not determine the most consistent internet service provider (ISP) and video experience categories.
Alongside the provider details, Ookla shared performance data for different Canadian cities and regions.
Out of the most populous cities in Canada, Winnipeg and Edmonton were listed as the top-performing cities in the country for mobile and fixed networks, respectively. Winnipeg recorded the fastest median mobile download speed at 137.59Mbps, and Edmonton recorded the fastest median fixed download speed with 285.3Mbps, far outpacing any other city.
The mobile network data for all the provinces found that Saskatchewan had the fastest median mobile download speed, 122.85Mbps. Manitoba was second, followed by Newfoundland and Labrador in third. The fixed network data found Newfoundland and Labrador to have the fastest median fixed download speed at 298.9Mbps, followed by New Brunswick and British Columbia coming in second and third, respectively.
