Rogers has added a new perk to its upper-tier mobile plans that gives subscribers 30 per cent off their device protection if they choose to sign up for that monthly fee as well.
As of the time of writing, Rogers’ ‘Popular’ and ‘Ultimate’ plans both include a 30 per cent discount on Device protection, which is typically $8 per month. So with the discount, this should bring the protection charge down to around $5.60. Rogers device repair includes one free screen replacement, a free replacement if your phone is lost or stolen, and free repairs. You can learn more about it on Rogers’ website.

That said, I’m not typically the type of person who buys warranties for my tech, so I don’t think it’s worth upgrading your plan to get this unless you have a consistent track record of breaking and losing phones. Right now, the cheapest Rogers plan with this perk costs $80 per month (if you sign up for autopay). The $80 plan includes 175GB of data at speeds up to 1Gbps along with data, calling, and texting in both Canada and the U.S.
The other perks on this plan that you don’t see on lower-cost plans are unlimited international texting and 1,000 international calling minutes. These plans also come with Canada/U.S. data, but you can get cheaper options with Canada/U.S. or even Canada/U.S./Mexico usage from Freedom or Public Mobile.
Bell and Telus both also offer $80 plans with over 150GB of data, but neither has matched Rogers’ new device protection discount perk.
