The Pixel 9’s AI weather forecast is slowly being introduced to older devices.
The AI forecast was introduced with the new Pixel weather app, which launched with the initial release of the Pixel 9. It gives users a summary of the day’s weather forecast without them needing to look in-depth into data or graphs.
Up to this point, these AI reports have stayed exclusive to the Pixel 9, but according to a report by Android Authority, users on Reddit have started seeing AI weather forecasts pop up on the Pixel 8 and 8a.
All users who have reported seeing AI forecasts on the Pixel 8 and 8a report that they had Gemini Nano enabled in the phones’ developer settings, a feature introduced in 2024. This has led many to question why it has taken so long to bring AI forecasts to older Pixel models when the tools for them were already introduced so long ago.
At the time of writing, Google has not spoken out about this new update, which is slowly being rolled out.
