The long-rumoured smaller MacBook with an A18 Pro chip is now supposed to cost around US$599 (C$825), which would be the lowest-cost MacBook in a long time.
This computer is rumoured to include a 12.9-inch screen and will use the same chipset as the iPhone 16 Pro. If this rumour is true, this would be the first time an A-series chip appears in a Mac, but it clarifies how similar Apple’s PC and mobile chips are.
This rumour comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that Apple is hoping to start mass-producing this computer in Q4 of 2025. A separate report from Digitimes says that mass production of the core components will happen at the end of Q3, which aligns with the Q4 total assembly.
The rumours state that the computer will come in soft silver, blue, yellow and pink finishes. It will also only support regular USB-C speeds and may have other compromises compared to the current MacBook Air. That said, with a lower price, I’m sure it will bring a lot of people into the Mac ecosystem.
