At Google I/O 2025, the company announced a new feature in Search called AI Mode. Now it’s rolling out in Canada on Google’s Search results page, Android and iOS. Google is rolling it out in English first and plans on bringing it to more languages.
AI Mode brings the Gemini 2.5 model capabilities into Google Search, breaking down queries into subtopics and issuing various questions simultaneously. Because of this, it’s letting you dive deeper than a regular search.
AI Mode will use Deep Search functionality, letting you ask even more profound questions, issue hundreds of searches, and offer expert-level, fully cited reports.
AI Mode is also multimodal, which means you can ask with your voice, text, or even using your camera.
Here’s what I wrote about my experience after I tried out AI Mode back in May:
“’If I wanted to make tapioca, what would I need, and where can I get the ingredients?’ AI Mode explained what tapioca was, where I could find tapioca starch, links to and locations of the closest stores, and their positions on a map. It also showed step-by-step details on how to make tapioca and tips like how to store it.
“I followed up with how much it would cost and how to make it healthier. AI Mode explained affordable ways to get these ingredients and different bullet points on how to make it healthier. It also linked to different healthy bubble tea and tapioca pudding recipes and other notes.”
I did notice that while AI Mode linked to different recipes and the closest stores, I barely had to leave it to go on any sites, which could spark a downturn in traffic for many, including us here at MobileSyrup. Google claims its AI tools aren’t hurting web traffic, but the evidence suggests otherwise.
