Canadian animation studio Nelvana has reportedly shut down after more than 50 years.
Over the weekend, several people who say they worked at or with the Toronto-based company said it closed its doors last week. On Bluesky, the animation-centric account ToonHive shared screenshots of these people making these comments across social media. One of these people was Deven Mack, the Canadian star of Netflix’s Sonic Prime.

Corus Entertainment, the parent company of Nelvana, has yet to make an official statement regarding a possible closure. MobileSyrup reached out to Corus Entertainment to confirm that Nelvana has indeed been shut down but did not hear a response in time for publication. We’ll update this story should we hear back.
Unfortunately, though, it wouldn’t be surprising should this indeed be true. After all, Corus has been struggling financially and started big cost-cutting measures as a result, including reductions and the halting of projects at Nelvana last year.
It would be a huge loss given Nelvana’s history, having been founded in 1971 and gone on to work on beloved shows like The Magic School Bus, Franklin, Babar and Clone High. The company also shut down DisneyXD, Nickelodeon and others earlier this summer. Sadly, these aren’t the only iconic Canadian kids entertainment casualty as of late, following the recent announcement that the Family Channel will be shut down later this year.
