eSIM provider Airalo has shared its data on Canadians’ most popular travel destinations over the summer.
Notably, the U.S. remained the number one country, even with travel dropping significantly in recent months amid President Donald Trump’s tariffs and attacks on Canadian sovereignty. Interestingly, though, Airalo said France jumped to second place from sixth place last year, citing food, culture and events. And finally, Japan rounded out the top three.
With interest in the U.S. declining, these were the top 10 fastest-growing summer destinations for Canadians:
- South Korea
- Phillipines
- UAE
- Peru
- France
- Morocco
- Hong Kong
- Ireland
- Japan
- Columbia
Other notable points from Airalo’s report:
- Ireland entered the top 10 for the first time, with Airalo mentioning landscapes, culture and cooler weather as reasons for the increased popularity
- Travel to South Korea grew by 288 per cent, by far the most of any country, followed by the Philippines (95 per cent) and UAE (69 per cent)
- Travel to Japan grew by 36 per cent
- Travel to Mexico grew by 34 per cent
- Travel to the UK grew by 24 per cent
- Travel to Portugal grew by 20 per cent
- Travel to Italy dropped by six per cent
- Germany, The Netherlands, South Korea, China and Iceland didn’t crack the top 10 but all demonstrated marked growth and could be ones to look out for in 2026
Airalo says the data was gathered between May 1 and August 15, 2025.
