iPhone 14 and 15 users get another free year of Apple’s satellite features

Apple extended the free satellite features for iPhone 15 and 15 models purchased before Sept. 9, 2025.

When Emergency SOS via Satellite launched on the iPhone 14 series, Apple said the feature would only be free for two years. However, three years later, and it looks like Apple has extended the trial even further.

Apple’s newsroom posts for the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro offer more details about Emergency SOS via Satellite on older models: “The free trial will be extended for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users who have activated their device in a country that supports Apple’s satellite features prior to 12 a.m. PT on September 9, 2025.”

If you purchased your iPhone 14 in 2022, your free trial would have expired in 2024; however, you’ll now have Emergency SOS via Satellite until November 2026. The feature is still free for two years after activation on iPhone 14 models and newer.

Last year with the launch of iOS 18, Apple added a new satellite messaging feature, letting you text when you have no data.
