Skype 3.0 for Android released with new tablet interface and better audio quality

Microsoft’s newest big-time brand, Skype, has just been updated to version 3.0 for Android. With it comes a brand new interface for tablets, though Microsoft didn’t seem to think that anyone uses a Nexus 7 since the frame is forced into landscape mode. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

Also present is Skype’s newest SILK codec, which is supposed to improve audio quality for all users involved, both on audio and video calls.

We tested video quality and it was indeed quite sharp on the Nexus 10 tablet, and to us the quality looked the same as on a PC.
