First full look at Asus’ Xbox handheld has reportedly leaked

The first photos of Asus’ long-rumoured Xbox-branded handheld have seemingly hit the web.

As spotted by VideoCardz, via 91mobiles, an FCC listing for the Wi-Fi module in the unreleased Asus ROG Ally 2 also appears to include images of the Asus device, codenamed Project Kennan.

The first two photos are of a white device that would presumably be the ROG Ally 2, while two other photos show an (incredibly dirty) black handheld that would appear to be Kennan. Adding fuel to that is the fact that it clearly features the Xbox’s signature X, B, Y and A buttons, as well as what appears to be a dedicated “Xbox” button on the top left, as has been rumoured. Additionally, the FCC listing reveals a few specs, including a 7-inch, 120Hz LCD display and 8-core, 36W AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme CP.

All of this follows months of rumours of Xbox’s plans to break into the PC gaming handheld space that includes the likes of Valve’s Steam and Asus’ ROG Ally. At CES in January, Microsoft expressed its intention to bring together “the best of Xbox and Windows” on portable PC devices, starting with some announcements later this year. It was later reported by The Verge, following an initial Windows Central piece, that this would be an Xbox-branded Asus device. Asus teased the handheld in a video shortly after.

Given this new FCC certification, it would seem as though Asus and Microsoft are poised to finally reveal Project Kennan, and that could even come this month. Asus regularly launches hardware at the Computex event in Thailand, which begins on May 20, while Microsoft’s own Build conference, which starts on May 19, often has PC-related announcements. And finally, Microsoft has its big Xbox Games Showcase on June 8.
